Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass follows on from last year's label mix medley 'Nobody's Perfect' with a fresh compilation for the '05. Featuring even more new electro-BASSed tracks and introducing new blood amongst a few more recognised names in disguise, 'SUBsidence' rolls from subtle electronic emotion to break dance mayhem at the flick of a fader switch. From Miami's Alpha 606 to Dopamine's Nomadic, Dave Tipper's Crunch to Andy Jagger's ADJ alias, the crazy assed hip hop dynamics of New York's Eggfooyoung to Doctor Evil's rump shakin' quest and even the esteemed Plaid as 'Tura' amongst others 'SUBsidence' is bass heavy, booty bumping, electronic darkness that feels most at home in the shadows. The murky emotion that emanates from the machines is depicted here with fresh ideas and experiences telling of new directions in aural electronics. Deft production that speaks of artificial intelligence and human soul makes for compelling entertainment. This is the kind of creativity that reminds us why electronic music can be so exciting. It creates new ideas and emotions while still maintaining the kind of continuity that electro has come to expect. It is like finding a long dark winding path leading into a warped reality of dripping bass and jaded melodies that warm the soul while sending shivers down the spine. Another chapter in the journey into the internal electronic underworld. From Tura (the auspicious PLAID in disguise) we have gracious experimentation whilst ADJ aka Andy Jaggers (who has released tracks on Outside and Ai as well as his co-run Pyramid Transmissions) delivers a mournful bassline from the inner recesses of his mind and Hydraulix reminds us of the dancefloor directness of electro with 'Robobop' Alpha 606 are an electro group from Miami, Florida comprising of Armando Martinez, Rey Rubio and Marino Hernandez on live drums and percussion. They have been performing their own brand of afro-cuban electro bass since 2000 and you can taste their unique excursion into mamboesque SUBsidence on 'Anarchy in China'. UK bass stalwart Dave Tipper joins up with Mike one half of Abstrakt Knights, and owner of Colony Records delivering another electronic corker under their Crunch alias whilst Diagoro sees Sam Ashwell (aka the other half of Abstrakt Knights) producing 'Etch' his electronic skulduggery into our neural circuits. Straight rom LA comes RD and Doctor Evil supplying us with some crazy flipped out electro from their Experimental Liquor Museum' and NYC based Secret Frequency Crew operative Adrian Michna's (aka Eggfooyoung) opens the album with another electro / hip hop mash up. Dopamine crew member Nomadic from the MIA scares the hell out of us with his appropriately named track 'Anxiety', a new artist definitely worth looking out for in 2005 and 'Excessive Frequency' is yet another dark menacing track from the Cultek boys (who also run London's infamous Scand nights) and of course we can't overlook the dark effervescence of Andrea Parker and David Morley's 'Polarize'. SUBsidence circumnavigates the globe bringing these distant cousins together under one sonic groove. However every track on this compilation is essential to the story that Touchin' Bass is telling. This compilation showcases many artists whose imaginations have been influenced by the very fact that technology exists in our lives. They have seen an opportunity to express their feelings through electronic textures, through the very antithesis of the human form. They have chosen the regular, the sterile , the man made, the objects of logic and function to communicate their ideas about the world. They have done so with such alarming beauty and purpose that it is impossible not to see their place in the development of music and creativity together. To understand and experience this process one should listen to the album as if a whole entity from one like minded spirit as the Touchin' Bass ethos flows through the very fibre of every track.
