Born in Chinatown, NYC, Eggfooyoung was the fourth son of the famous
fashion designer Xiao-Ping Yin. Yin had come from Shanghai and knew
something special was going to happen in New York City. By day he would
work on his designs, and by night he would raise young Eggfoo, teaching
him the ways of Confucius. As an 8-year-old, Eggfooyoung began studying
violin. A year later he switched to trombone and decided to stick with
it.
At 14, Eggfooyoung recorded and produced his close friends band. A year
later, he found himself playing trombone and turntables in the band.
They would record endless sessions to 4-track. Many of those tapes have
been lost forever.
During the mid 90’s Secret Frequency Crew was established, and it was
rumored at one point to have as many as 62 members, with each member
possessing special talents. Meetings were held in the woods just north
of the Bronx, usually at nighttime in the summers.
As an active member of Secret Frequency Crew, Eggfooyoung honed his
skills in the areas of BMX, graffiti, ramp building, speaker boxes,
turntables, baby swipes, Gemini mixers, car stereos, lowriders, horn
composition, RC Cars, mixtapes, and finding deli’s that sell Zima and
Special Brew to teenagers. In the late 90’s Eggfooyoung moved to Miami
to pursue these interests. It wasn’t until the turn of the century that
Eggfooyoung started releasing music as a regular member of Secret
Frequency Crew. From 2001-2003 they released three singles and an EP,
the most recent “Miami Eyes” on mass transit.
In the spring of 2003, Eggfooyoung locked himself in a room with his
SP-1200 and produced the Breakdance and Motivate EP. Since he can’t
dance, he decided to take a shot at making music for those who can. He
wanted to design these tracks around the low frequencies he was exposed
to in Miami. This is Eggfooyoung speaking directly to the DeeJays, the
Breakers, and the sub-woofers.
Secret Frequency Crew’s debut album “ forest of the echo downs” is due
out 27.04.04 on Schematic
